PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Comeback falls short for Rabbits

WABASSO – The Wabasso girls basketball team made a furious comeback in the second half, but fell to Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 75-67 on Monday.

The Rabbits found themselves down by as many as 28 points in the second half before mounting a comeback attempt that brought themselves to within five. GFW held on down the stretch to earn the win.

Jenna Frank led the way for the Rabbits with 17 points while Lindsey Bernardy had 13 and Alison Benz added 11. Madison Guetter chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds in the loss.

Wabasso (13-11) will wrap up the regular season with a game against Lakeview today at 6 p.m.

FULDA – The Westbrook-Walnut Grove girls basketball team fell to Fulda 81-38 Monday night.

Emma Woelber led the way for the Chargers with 11 points while Theresa Merrick and Lina Vue each added eight.

WWG shot just 27.7 percent from the field, including making only one 3-pointer on 14 attempts.

WWG (4-20) heads into the Section 3A tournament with a play-in game against Heron Lake-Okabena Thursday.

Fairmont 38, TMB/WWG 27

WORTHINGTON – The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton-Westbrook-Walnut Grove wrestling team had their season ended by Fairmont 38-27 in the section quarterfinals on Thursday.

Trevor Eisfeld won by fall for TMBWWG in the 152-weight class over Nathan Simmonds. In the following match, Nash Mayer won by fall in the 160-weight class over Miles Fitzgerald.

TMBWWG won the final two matches of the dual by fall. In the 220-weight class Austin Bucholz pinned Conner Tordsen, and Sam Bauer pinned Theo Krumholz in the 285-weight class.
