PREP HOCKEY ROUNDUP: Tigers wrap up regular season with 5-2 win
LE SUEUR – The Marshall girls hockey team wrapped up its regular season with a 5-2 victory over LeSueur-Henderson/St. Peter/Tri-City United Saturday.
In the second period. Marshall got things started with a goal from Sydney Mauch 4:06 into the period. The Tigers then made it 2-0 thanks to a goal from Tessa Coudron.
After St. Peter cut the deficit to 2-1, Marshall’s Mikayla Campion found the back of the net to make it 3-1 in favor of the Tigers. Once again, St. Peter cut the deficit to one goal at 3-2, but back-to-back goals from Olivia Peterson and Kaitlyn Timm just six seconds apart boosted the Tigers to victory.
Emma Klenken earned the victory in net for Marshall, stopping 20 shots.
Marshall (17-7-1) has earned the No. 2 seed in the Section 3A tournament and will host No. 7 Worthington tomorrow at 7 p.m. at Red Baron Arena.
Marshall coach Kevin Schroeder said they need to continue to play together if they want to win.
“We’ve got to come out aggressive and control the puck,” said Schroeder. “And of course, we’ve got to play as a team.”

LE SUEUR – The Marshall boys hockey team used balanced scoring to defeat LeSueur-Henderson/St. Peter/Tri-City United 8-2 Saturday.
The Tigers struck first in the opening period when Mason Penske made it 1-0 on a short handed goal. Marshall took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Early in the second period, Blake VanKeulen made it 2-0 in favor of the Tigers before St. Peter cut the deficit to 2-1. Marshall responded, however, with Mason Plante scoring to make it 3-1 Tigers heading into the second intermission.
The third period was all Marshall to start, as the Tigers scored three goals to push their lead to 6-1. Dylan Criquet-Danielson scored two goals and Jack Boerboom had the other for the Tigers fast start to the final frame.
After another St. Peter goal, Plante and Boerboom each scored again to bring it to the 8-2 final.
Trey Nelson earned the victory in goal for the Tigers, notching 26 saves.
Marshall (15-6-1) will face Waseca on Tuesday.
