MINNEOTA – The Minneota Vikings hosted the Ortonville Trojans on Friday night where the Vikings came out on top 57-56 in a nail-biting thriller.

The Vikings held the lead early in the first half as Jacob Hennen sunk a three to put Minneota up 15-11 over the Trojans.

Their lead did not last long, though, as Sam Buysse had to mark up a three to tie the game at 24. Ortonville then answered back with a three of their own to put themselves up over the Vikings 27-24.

Isaac Hennen was then fouled with 2:53 remaining in the first half and he went 1 of 2 but Minneota still trailed 36-27. Minneota was not able to come back before the buzzer and trailed Ortonville 38-31 at the half.

Minneota came back and wasn’t ready to give up as they continued to play tough offensively with help from Thomas Hennen and Jacob Hennen as they marked up back-to-back 3-pointers. Minneota still trailed 46-41 after these efforts.

Logan Sussner came back later in the half to sink another three for the Vikings, but the Trojans had managed to pull ahead and lead 52-44 over Minneota.

With only 1:56 remaining in the game, Minneota took a timeout after a huge offensive effort to bring them within two points of Ortonville, but the Trojans still held the lead 52-50. Ortonville managed to extend their lead to 54-52 over Minneota until Sam Buysse marked up an important and game-changing 3-pointer to put the Vikings up 55-54 over Ortonville.

Minneota took another timeout with only 58 seconds remaining in the game and the score was all tied up at 55. Minneota then held a 57-55 lead with only 5.9 seconds remaining, almost sealing in their victory.

With only a half a second left on the clock, a Trojan was fouled while going for a 3-pointer. He went 1 of 3 at the line and Minneota was able to come back from a deficit to take the win by one point.

“I thought we came out in the second half and played better defense. Offensively, we settled down and ran some stuff,” said coach Dave Busselman of his thoughts on his team’s win over Ortonville on Monday night.

Minneota is next scheduled to play Lakeview tonight and will once again have home-court advantage.

With Monday’s win, Minneota extends their overall record to 10-5.
