MARSHALL – The Marshall Tigers took on the Jackson County Central Huskies on Tuesday night where the Tigers came out on top 87-45.

The Tigers trailed early in the first half and struggled to take the lead, but a strong push by the Marshall offense changed everything. Zach Bloemker scored his first 3-pointer of the game early in the first to put the Tigers up 5-4. The Huskes, however, shortly answered back with a 3-pointer of their own and the Tigers trailed 9-5.

Marshall’s offense had a chance to heat up as they went on a 9-point streak that included another 3-pointer by Bloemker to put the Tigers up 20-15 over the Huskies. Marshall would hold this lead for the remainder of the game.

Bloemker’s 3-pointer was immediately followed up by a 3-pointer from Trey Lance to put the Tigers up 23-17. Bloemker followed up once again with another 3-pointer to extend Marshall’s lead to 26-17.

Marshall went 4 of 5 at the line in the first half with help from Mitchell Sueker, Blaise Andries, and Lance. The Tigers lead 42-25 at the half.

Marshall came back from the half determined to take the win. Bloemker, still hot from the first half, marked up another 3-pointer to extend the Tigers lead to 49-25. Marshall offense stayed hot and the defensive units managed to hold off the Huskies to help the Tigers earn the win. Marshall went 2 of 2 at the line in the second half thanks to Jacob Hess and Bloemker.

Coach Travis Carroll was impressed with his team’s ability to pull together to come out with the win.

“We were just getting back to the basic fundamentals,” said Carroll. “Offensively, it was just working together.”

Marshall is scheduled to take on Windom Area on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

“They are going to come out and compete hard. Hopefully we can be focused and get in the game,” said Carroll of Thursday’s matchup.

With Tuesday’s win, Marshall has an overall record of 11-1.
