MARSHALL – It was all Marshall all the time Thursday evening when the fifth ranked Tigers ran away from the visiting Windom Eagles, 70-29. With the win the Tigers extended their winning streak to eight games and improved to 13-1 overall.

If the Eagles had any hopes of pulling off the road upset, they were quickly squashed, as the Tigers opened up the game by going on a 21-0 run.

The Eagles got on the board with 11:48 left in the first half on a free throw to make it a 21-1 game. Windom made its first field goal with 10:12 left to make it a 26-3 game.

At the end of the first half, the Tigers led the Eagles 44-10. The Tigers stingy defense held the Eagles to three field goals in the first half. Marshall coach Travis Carroll was pleased with his team’s defensive performance.

“We contested shots,” said Carroll. “We did a good job of rebounding. We didn’t give them a lot of second chances. We communicated well. We were pretty focused coming out of the gates.”

The Tigers shot 60 percent from the floor and had six players score eight or more points. Carroll said his team did a good job of making the extra pass.

“We shared the ball well tonight,” he said. “I thought the guys passed the ball well tonight. We looked to attack in transition and played well together.”

It was the Tigers final tuneup before their top 10 showdown with 10th ranked Waseca on Saturday. It will be the first meeting between the two teams since last year’s quadruple overtime thriller in the Class 3A section championship. Waseca has yet to suffer a loss this season and own a 13-0 record.

“We’re going to have to be fundamentally sound,” said Carroll. “We’ll have to follow through with the fundamentals on offense and defense. When we do those fundamentals well we have a good shot of winning games. We need to make sure to box out and defend in transition. If we do those fundamental things well we’ll have a good opportunity to win.”
