SMSU VOLLEYBALL: Mustangs remain fourth in the country in latest AVCA Polls

LEXINGTON, Ky. The Southwest Minnesota State women’s volleyball team remains the No. 4 team in the country in this week’s American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II Top 25 coaches’ poll released on Monday.

SMSU (24-4, 18-2 NSIC) has won four straight and 18 of its last 19 matches and has now been ranked in the AVCA Top 10 for 49 consecutive polls including a top five ranking in all 12 polls so far this year. The Mustangs have been ranked in the AVCA Top 25 for 145 consecutive polls dating back to Sept. 5, 2006.

The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) continues to be well represented in the latest poll again as Concordia-St. Paul (1), Minnesota Duluth (2), Winona State (6), Augustana (7) and Wayne State (8) each made it into the AVCA Top 10 as well. Northern State (20) also remains in the nation’s top 25 this week.

The Mustangs are 8-4 this season against nationally ranked opponents this year and received one first place vote in this week’s poll. SMSU was ranked third in the first two Central Region rankings of the year with the third region rankings of the season to be released this Wednesday.

SMSU are now headed into the NSIC Conference Tournament as the No. 2 seed and will host seventh seeded Sioux Falls on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
