Looking at that election judge guide, citizens can register by being "vouched for", see 6.5.3.1 Vouching for Residency (Oath of a Registered Voter in the Precinct)no ID required.

No doubt this gets abused, and State issued photo ID to vote would limit that abuse. The flip side of that coin, many Seniors, Amish, Hutterites, Mennonites and others that have never possessed a Minnesota issued photo ID might rely on that provision to enable them to vote. The provision wasn't put there as loop hole for abuse. We are far enough advanced that with some effort, we can establish voting criteria that protects election integrity without reviving Jim Crow at the polls. As long as everyone eligible to vote has no barriers placed in their way to vote, I'm all for it. So let's lay out how that happens, and I believe support will then be overwhelming.

You already need ID to register to vote(pages 24-25 of the 2010 election judge guide)Whats the big deal about verifying that you are that same person.Show an ID

AARP claims that there are about 120,000 people over the age of 65 without State of Minnesota issued ID's. In order to get a birth certificate in Minnesota, you must what.....? Show a photo ID. So we are creating a Catch 22 situation for some's voting right. For some, this process is overwhelming. Some elderly with limited mobility and financial means will be burdened by this measure, removing their eligibility to vote. Any time we pass legislation that affects all, we need to consider all, not just our own situation. It is no burden for me to produce ID to vote, and would readily comply if asked. Let's consider everyone, and have means of accommodating those who may need help in complying. And lets discuss how much this will cost and how we are to pay for it. The need to do something is a given. Goal, method and objective need to be clarified.

At a senate Hearing today on this photo ID to vote amendment issue, an Election Judge from Shoreview testified about an incident where 114 people registered to a one bedroom apartment voted. Something must be dome to promote election integrity. We do however, need to consider all voters, and how this will affect them. Amish have religious beliefs that discourage photo images of themselves. Do they sacrifice one civil right in order to practice another? They don't need ID to drive, by cigarettes, fly on planes or collect social security. And most Amish are politicaly active.

Seems to be a no brainer. Voting is a right that should require some responsibility. No id no vote!
