@Phage. It said democracy. I was standing out there and could read it quite clearly. In fact, I was the one that wrote it out on the poster. I'm assuming you were in the vehicle of the obnoxious "adults" hanging out the window and yelling such things as "Get a job!" We need to do the growing up?
Really, you sound like you are reading Obama's re-election newsletter again: "The extended tax cuts include lower rates for the rich, the middle class and the working poor, a $1,000-per-child tax credit, tax breaks for college students and lower taxes on capital gains and dividends. The bill also extends through 2011, a series of business tax breaks designed to encourage investment that expired at the end of 2009. A worker making $50,000 in wages would save $1,000; one making $100,000 would save $2,000. Tim Geithner: "This legislation is good for growth, good for jobs, good for working and middle class families, and good for businesses looking to invest and expand their work force. Doesn't sound like the tax cuts were an add on for unemployment benefits -- but actually something the Obama admin thought would spur growth. They wanted the tax cuts as bad as anybody. You are telling the liberal-colored half the story, Really, as usual.
3.2 million jobs available right now, but many lack the skills to get hired. So when is OccupyMN going to train the underskilled to get these jobs? Or are they leaving it to the taxpayers and the corporations to continue to do this job? What do you take responsibility for? You can always work at one of really's three businesses for minimum wage and no benefits.
Really, you have a point. The Right is not known for sit ins. They historically have leaned more towards direct action. Consider G. Washington and the American Revolution, and actually, the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution didn't come about from dissolutioned citizens cutting class and gathering in the park to beat bongo drums. Most of that came about from some extremist right wing activity. What I learned from this is that if SHTF, I'm looking for a John Wayne, Not a Joan Biaz
Phage, Verbage aside, he said she said, if you want to be honest its alot easier to know what a Republican looks like than what a Democrat looks like. When you and you friends drive around Marshall tom. look around and most likely you will get a very good idea what a Republican looks like.
Commi, Again you are being dishonest. You know exactly why the tax cuts were extended. Start with republicans holding benefits to the unemployed hostage. No extention no benefits. You cant even remember a year ago? You are the typical rightie saying something makes it true. Be dishonest is not a virtue.
Yup, they are spoiled kids who have never known hardship in their lives, they are protesting because they "read about it in a blog once" and think it's the hip thing to do.
@mandanon
Pretty sure it said "democrat" when I drove by, in fact so do the other 3 people who were in my car. Glad to hear they fixed it later ;)
Also, you might want to consider screening the real crazies out from your party in the near-future.
Having someone who spews anarchism all over their facebook page, along with anti-government and take-down message all over the place, might make the rest of you look worse than you already do :)
It seems -- and this is just an observation -- that Marshall has a few "professional" protesters who protest anything. Most of them are left-wing fanatics who just want the attention. Not all of them, but most of them. YOu see them at pretty much any real radical left wing movement. They protest just to protest. And frankly, these "occupiers" don't seem to be accomplishing much in big cities other than trashing property and requiring more police security and cleanup costs.
@phage-something i forgot to mention. the poster read "this is what democracy looks like" not "this is what democrat looks like." Democracy is generally defined as a form of gov't in which all people have an equal say in the decisions that affect their lives.
@Phage-It's people like you that make me want to see this movement succeed. You slap labels on people without giving them a chance. One person in the movement does not stand for everyone else's beliefs. We won't turn people away for their haircut, their political beliefs, their race,their sexuality or any label you would like to give them. We stand united. Quit being a hater and realize there are bigger problems than the guy with a mo-hawk. I'd also like to make it clear to the people who think the protesters do not have jobs, we do have jobs. And, if we do not we are full-time students.
The movement is not defined by the handful in Marsall, MN. Nor does it matter what one looks like in order to take a stand against injustice. That being said, I hear ya, this might not be the best example of protest. But have at it.
So today I drove past this......thing and saw the following:
1x Neo Nazi looking fellow with a blue mo-hawk (hmm wonder why HE'S have a hard time getting a job..)
1x Hipster sporting a laptop bag (probably containing an imac or macbook pro, something expensive made by one of the "evil" corporations).
1x Hipster looking girl is a furry cat hat (really....these are the representatives of our displeasure against govt. corruption).
Also, a sign that said "This is what a democrat looks like", no idea what the point/purpose of that sign was trying to convey.
Move along people, nothing worth seeing here. Especially cute when you go to their facebook page and see the mohawk kid is an admitted anarchist with all kinds of lovely anti-authority quotes and posts on his page. Bravo, youth of America, bravo!
This was supposed to be a democratic republic. I'm not sure what happened along the way, but I'm pretty certain there's something in the Constitution about this...oh, there it is, right at the top: "It is the right of the people...to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." The Occupy movement will make no apology for the fact that there is a LONG list of grievances which some perceive as a lack of organization on our part. Make no mistake, we are organized, we are goal-oriented, and we are ****** OFF. It is not only our right but our RESPONSIBILITY to act on behalf of the best interests of 99% of the general population. We are citizens of one of the greatest nations in the world, and it is the duty (literally, it is in their job description) of elected officials to pay attention to what we have to say and take steps to weed out the corruption running rampant in our current administration.
People just sitting back while this country is in extreme crisis is the problem. It is about time people take a stand and let their voices be heard again!
Commi, just so we are clear. I DO own and operate 3 "small businesses" they are sucessful, I do pay a pantsful of taxes, both property and income, and dont whine about it like you onservatives on here that dont own*****or pay*****but have all these big opinions.
PhageTheUntouchable
@mandanon
Nice assumption skills there, as usual they are all wrong :)
Is that what bands the "99%" together? Their ability to be wrong so often?

Don't worry, once the snow starts they will all return to their jobs at McDonald's and Walmart.
Then the cities can begin cleaning up the cesspool they've turned their occupation sites into.

If tax cuts don't spur the economy, then why did Obama and the Democrats push them through in Dec. 2010?

We seem to have two highly visible movements at the political front lately. To summarize the message of these two:
Tea Party: Less government, less regulation, less taxation, less debt.
Occupy: Eat the rich.
I see one movement gaining strength and support. The other I see evaporating with the first snow fall.
