According to an unlucky Radio Shack employee, it is because AT&T and unicell are completing the final step in their merger and bringing Unicell's towers over into AT&T's network. This is affecting AT&T (Unicell) and Sprint (Virgin Mobile and Boost Mobile). Unclear when it will be back up. Only thing that seems to work is internet.
