The Marshall Amateur Hockey Association spent most of Thursday painting the ice at the Lockwood Motors Ice Arena. Workers applied three base coats of white paint on the rink, then painted the lines, circles and logos. The paint is chalk-based, so it is safe for the environment, said arena manager Cody Mellenthin. The next step of getting the ice ready for action this season includes the application of thin coats of water until about an inch of ice covers the paint. That is about a week-long process.
