n Junior volleyball will be Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Park Side gym beginning Sept. 4. Grades 2-3 will meet from 3:30-4:20 p.m. Grades 4-5 will meet from 4:30-5:20 p.m. Sixth grade will meet from 5:30-6:20 p.m. Participants will work on serving, setting, bumping and much more. Fee: $30 for residents, $37.50 for non-residents.
n Learn Mah-Jongg! will be from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursdays (Sept. 4, 11 and 18) at the Adult Community Center. Learn the American version of the ancient Chinese game of skill and luck. Fee: $5 per person.
n Junior Tiger football clinics will be from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Saturdays from Sept. 6-20 at the Marshall High School Tiger practice field. Boys and girls in kindergarten through second grade can attend these free instructional clinics - no registration necessary.
n Intro to flag football for boys and girls in kindergarten and first grade will meet on Mondays (Sept. 8, 15, 22 and 29) from 4:30-5:15 p.m. or 5:30-6:15 p.m. at Legion Field. Fee: $20 for residents, $25 for non-residents.
n Guitar 101 (for ages 10 and older) will be from 7-8 p.m. at the Note Gallery (356 W. Main St.) Mondays from Sept. 8-29. Learn the basics of guitar playing while having fun and meeting new friends. Fee: $35 per person.
n Tastefully Simple freezer meals will be from 7-9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at the Marshall High School (Room A160). Assemble 10 freezer meals for your family using Tastefully Simple products. Be sure to bring a large cooler to store and bring home your meals after class. Register before Sept. 2. Fee: $125 per person - includes everything you need to make the 10 meals.
n Beginning Photography for Everyone will be from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, and Sept. 16, at the Public Works building at the Lyon County Fairgrounds. This photography class will show you what your camera can do, how it thinks, the simple compositional rules of photography and the different ways to take "professional-like" pictures with ease. Bring your camera with to class. Fee: $24 for residents, $30 for non-residents.
n Adult men's fall softball league is back again with games being played Tuesday nights at the softball complex. League will run seven weeks with a single elimination tournament. Fee: Player fee - $15 for residents, $18.75 for non-residents; Team fee: $150 per team.
n Co-rec kickball league will be on Thursday nights at Justice Park. League will run six weeks with a single elimination tournament. Fee: $20 for residents, $25 for non-residents.
n Drawing What You See, Drawing What You Want will be from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 11, 18 and 25, in the Marshall Middle School FACS Room. Experiment with different drawing mediums and gain insight into achieving special effects in your work. There will be a $15 material fee payable to instructor at first class. Fee: $40 for residents, $50 for non-residents.
n Design and Make Ceramic House Number Tiles will be from 6-7:30 p.m. (Thursdays) Sept. 11, 18 and 25, in the Marshall Middle School art room. Instructor will guide you from your original design, through building or carving, to finished tiles, glazed, fired and ready for mounting. There will be a $15 material fee payable to instructor at first class. Fee: $40 for residents, $50 for non-residents.
n ECFE - Oh Baby (for birth-12 months with a parent) will be from 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Mondays (Sept. 15-Oct. 27) at the ECFE Office in the Marshall Middle School. This class is free, but registration with MCS is required.
n Punt, Pass and Kick event will be from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at Legion Field Boys and girls (ages 6-15) will have the opportunity to compete separately against their peers in punting, passing and place kicking. The first place finisher in each group will advance to state. The competition is free of charge with registration taking place the day of the event.
n ECFE - Bop 'Til You Drop (for birth-5 years with a parent) will be from 1-2 p.m. Mondays (Sept. 15-Oct. 13) at the ECFE Office in the Marshall Middle School. Fee is per family: $25 for residents, $31.25 for non-residents. (Sliding fee scale applies to this class.)
n Beginning hockey will be from 5:15-6:30 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays from Sept. 15 through Oct. 2 at the Lockwood Motors Ice Arena. This program is for boys and girls ages 4 through fourth grade who have no previous organized hockey experience to have fun and be introduced to the sport of hockey. Fee: $35 for residents, $43.75 for non-residents.
n Beginning quilting (for adults) will be from 6-8:30 p.m. Mondays from Sept. 15 through Oct. 27 at Fabrics Plus (307 W. Main St.). Learn the basics of Quilting 101, rotary cutting, sewing a perfect quarter seam, binding and finishing your quilt and much more. Fee: $75 per person plus supplies.
n Marshall Middle School after school program is open to all fifth- through eighth-graders and meets from 3:05-5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Marshall Middle School. This program will begin meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 16, and will run through May - for $70. Participants may also register for the fall semester only for $40. To register for this program, please pick up a form in the Marshall Middle School Office or at Marshall Community Services.
