LAC QUI PARLE COUNTY - Foggy conditions may have been a factor in a fatal crash near Dawson on Friday, the Lac Qui Parle County Sheriff's Office said this weekend.
The Sheriff's Department said Robert James Coyle, 45, of Watertown, S.D., was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash early Friday morning.
A two-vehicle collision was reported at 4:52 a.m. Friday at the intersection of County Road 23 and County Road 2 in Lac Qui Parle County, about 5 miles south of Dawson, the Sheriff's Department said.
A vehicle driven by Ryan Elliott Wade, 29, of Canby, was northbound on County Road 23 when it was struck by Coyle's vehicle. Coyle was traveling westbound and failed to stop at a stop sign, the Sheriff's Department said.
Coyle was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, and Wade was taken by ambulance to Johnson Memorial Hospital with injuries to his legs and ribs, the Sheriff's Department said.
Wade was discharged from the hospital Friday afternoon, the Sheriff's Department said.
The crash is still under investigation by the Sheriff's Office and the Minnesota State Patrol. However, the Sheriff's Office said foggy conditions Friday morning may have been a factor in the crash.
The Dawson Fire Department and Ambulance Service, Boyd First Responders and Fire Department, Clarkfield Fire Department and Ambulance Service, St. Leo Fire Department and the Minnesota State Patrol all responded at the scene of the crash.
