There was plenty of good news for Marshall area literacy on Friday, as representatives from the Otto Bremer Foundation presented a total of $172,000 in grants that will benefit the Marshall-Lyon County Library and adult literacy programs in southwest Minnesota. The Marshall-Lyon County Library Foundation received a $125,000 grant that will help provide furnishings and fixtures for the new children's wing addition at the library.
The Literacy Volunteers of Southwest Minnesota also received a grant award of $47,100. Group representative Candace Thomas said the funds will help expand the Volunteers' library outreach, technological literacy and family literacy programs, said. The group will also be fundraising to meet $15,000 in matching funds to go along with the grant.
