LINCOLN COUNTY - The Ivanhoe School District lost an April appeal of an arbitrator's ruling to pay the Hendricks School District more than $1.2 million in damages for a breach of contract. After breaching an Interdistrict Agreement in 2011, the Ivanhoe School District was sued by the Hendricks School District.
Bruce Houck, Hendricks School superintendent, said there are still hurdles to cross before the lawsuit is over.
"(Ivanhoe) can still appeal once more to the Minnesota Court of Appeals," Houck said.
The Ivanhoe School District will have 90 days to decide if it wishes to appeal again.
According to the appeal ruling, Ivanhoe will also pay accrued prejudgement interest on the $1,225,501.86 award at a rate of 4 percent a year from the date the judgement was entered on June 26, 2012.
"It is unfortunate that the taxpayers will have to pay this bill by a poor decision by the (Ivanhoe) school board." Houck said.
Messages were not returned from the Ivanhoe School District office or from Ivanhoe School Board Chairman Steve Citterman.
