MADISON - The Canby Lancers went 1-1 in its first two games of the Class A Section 3 Tournament. They opened with a 2-0 win over Lac qui Parle Valley before falling to Lakeview 6-5 in nine innings.
Sawyer Kraus had the lone RBI for the Lancers in game one, going 0-for-2. It only took three hits to get past the Eagles as Riley Full went 1-for-3 and Christian Full was 2-for-3. Bryce Gorder and Kristian Leppke were the two runners who scored.
Brandon Hill, Garrett Olson and Jon Nielsen made up the three LQPV hits.
Gorder was the winning pitcher for the Lancers, striking out nine against just one walk in seven innings of work.. Olson was saddled with the loss as he went the full seven innings. He struck out five and walked two.
In the second game, Lakeview scored on a sacrifice fly from Seth Boerboom in the bottom of the seventh that plated Seth Plotz. Plotz led off the inning with a single and stole second base before advancing to third on a groundout.
Jacob Rausch led Lakeview, offensively, with three hits in five at-bats and had an RBI. Jacob Nue doubled for Lakeview and had an RBI as he went 2-for-3 and scored a run.
Lakeview also got an RBI from Travis Varpness, Zach Doose and Christopher Berg. The Lancers also got an RBI from five different batters, including Tanner Kack, Adam Durfee, Leppke, Kraus and William Schmitz.
Zach Nuy was saddled with the loss, giving up five runs on 11 hits in 6 innings of work. Bayley Enstad was the winning pitcher for Lakeview with three strikeouts and no walks in 6 2 /3 innings.
Canby will try and keep its season alive as it takes on MACCRAY at 5 p.m. today in Montevideo.
Lakeview is still in the winners bracket after beating Central Minnesota Christian 11-5 in its opening round game. The Lakers will take on Springfiel at 7 p.m. today in Sacred Heart.
Rabbits go 1-1
WINDOM - Wabasso went 1-1 in its first two games of the Class A Section 3 Tournament, beating Adrian Area 3-1 in 10 innings before losing to Windom Area 8-1.
In the Rabbits' opening game against Adrian Area, Neil Eichten went 1-for-4 with an RBI triple while Ty Kemp went 2-for-5 with an RBI.
Logan Rogers doubled for Adrian while Jordan Dingmann recorded a single and scored the Dragons' lone run on a balk and a wild pitch. Ian Ruppert and added another hit with a single.
Eichten picked up the win on the mound for Wabasso, pitching in relief of Josh Altermatt, who threw the first five innings and struck out four while walking two and allowing two hits.
Eichten's stats were almost identitical, as he went five innings and also struck out four while allowing two hits and three walks.
Wabasso scored two in the top of the 10th to help seal the victory.
Wabasso was sent to the consolation bracket with an 8-1 loss to Windom Area. The Eagles didn't waste any time, jumping out to 6-0 lead in the third inning before the Rabbits scored their lone run in the top of the fourth.
Nick Altermatt was saddled with the loss as he gave up three runs on five hits in his 1 2/3 innings of work and walked one while recording no strikeouts. Dirk Pistulka pitched 4 1/3 innings of relief and gave up five runs on five hits. He had two strikeouts and three walks.
Caleb Kemp and Jared Doyle came up with the two Rabbit hits and Caleb Salfer scored the lone run on an error by the third basemen.
Bryton Severson and Andrew Larson both had triples for Windom and Severson chalked up an RBI. Jack Melstrom and Zach Bartosh recorded doubles. Melstrom finished with three RBI while Jacob Gotto had two. Joe Wieneke and Jeff Pfeffer each had one.
Wabasso will play with its season on the line, today as it takes on Mountain Lake Area at 5 p.m. in Windom.
