MSU, Mankato has graduation
Minnesota State University, Mankato presented 2,413 degrees during spring/summer commencement exercises May 10 in Taylor Center on the Minnesota State Mankato campus.
Graduates of the College of Arts and Humanities, College of Business and College of Science, Engineering and Technology participated in a 9 a.m. ceremony, and graduates of the College of Allied Health and Nursing, College of Education and College of Social and Behavioral Sciences participated in a noon ceremony.

Frerich receives medical research fellowship
Jason M. Frerich, the son of John W. Frerich of Marshall and a fourth-year medical student at The Chicago Medical School in Chicago, received a HHMI - NIH grant to conduct neuroscience research at the NIH in Bethesda, Md., between his third and fourth years of medical school.
He published the results of his collaborative work June 25 as co-first author in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, titled "Histone deacetylase inhibitors are neuroprotective and preserve NGF-mediated cell survival following traumatic brain injury."
He also published additional work from that year in Nature Scientific Reports, titled "Tumor derived vasculogenesis in von Hippel-Lindau disease-associated tumors" and in the Journal of Neurosurgery, titled "De novo VHL germline mutation detected in a patient with mild clinical phenotype of von Hippel-Lindau disease."
Frerich plans to graduate from The Chicago Medical School, Chicago, Ill., June 6 with distinction in research and begin his neurosurgical training July 1 at the Emory University School of Medicine / Department of Neurological Surgery, Atlanta, Ga.
