MARSHALL - The Marshall Tigers improved their record to 6-3 on the season with a 4-1 non-conference victory over Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta on Monday night.
The score remained locked at 1-1 until Marshall broke the game open in the fifth inning on an RBI double from sophomore shortstop Ashley Stattleman and a two-run double from sophomore second baseman Madison Radel, bringing the score to 4-1.

Marshall’s Jayme Citrowske attempts to make contact with the ball during a non-conference game against Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta on Monday at the Marshall Softball Complex.
"They're doing a better job at the plate," Housman said. "We're not lighting anybody up right now. We've been a little slow at the plate the past couple games, but the bottom of the order has picked up nicely. We're getting the runs when we need the and playing that defense."
MACA had a chance to send the game to a bottom of the seventh inning when it loaded the bases in the top of the frame when Miranda Fischer, who pitched all seven innings, forced Kayla Pring to fly out to right field.
Marshall was able to force Pring, who had homered in the third to tie the game at 1-1, to make a pair of outs with the bases loaded in the fifth and seventh innings.
MACA coach Mary Holmberg knew that those missed opportunities cost her team the game in the end.
"We stranded too many runners," Holmberg said. "We didn't get the big hit when we needed it. I think they were disappointed, but we tried to come back in the seventh inning. We got runners on second and third with two outs, but it just didn't go."
Fischer finished the game with five strikeouts against four walks and allowed seven hits in her seven innings of work.
Housman is pleased with the way Fischer is performing in the pitchers circle.
"Miranda pitched an excellent game," Housman said. "She was hitting her spots today. She only missed once and the rest were all good. She mixed them up and did a nice job. It helps to be finally be playing games again."
