Understanding your cough: Irritation causes irritation

March 1, 2014

Especially in the late winter and spring seasons, a frequently expressed patient concern is a "dry cough." In my medical experience, patients often consult medical personnel because of a cough which interferes with their work, sleep, or comfort, or causes them to worry about more serious illness and consequences like pneumonia. Coughing is often viewed as an illness in itself, not as a symptom or result of an illness, something to be treated to make a person better. Such thinking may not be correct or appropriate.
