In searching for a column idea this week, I turned to Yahoo news (it's become a go-to when I'm stuck and it's Thursday afternoon and I really haven't thought of anything clever or earth-shattering to write about). I randomly chose a story on how J.C. Penney "saved itself" by using one of "the oldest tricks in the retail business," according to the article I found. What's the trick? Raise prices and then slash the prices so customers think they're getting a bargain. Smart, eh? It would sure lure me in.
