MARSHALL - Marshall head coach Travis Carroll and Windom Area head coach Dane Nielsen played basketball against each other in middle school and part of high school and both acknowledged their meetings went pretty back-and-forth.

Marshall’s Brent Andries attempts a layup against Windom Area during the second half of a Southwest Conference game Monday at Marshall High School. The Tigers defeated the Eagles 66-41.

Monday's round from the coaching bench went to Carroll as the Tigers used a huge second half to roll to a 66-41 victory over the Eagles. After leading 33-25 at the break, Marshall started the second half with a 14-0 run that buried Windom Area.

"They got a lot of offensive rebounds in the first half and we had a lot of turnovers," Carroll said. "We needed to work on those two things. We need to create some turnovers and that's what happened in the second half."

The Tigers forced the Eagles into 22 turnovers while turning it over just 12 times themselves and created an instant replay-like effect of getting layups at the other end.

The biggest beneficiary of those turnovers was MHS guard C.D. Douglas, who finished the night with 24 points on 12 of 14 shooting and made all 12 of his two-point attempts.

Riley Sharbono added 16 points for the Tigers, while Bryce Johnson chipped in eight points.

"We were just getting tips and I was getting down the floor and my teammates found me in transition," Douglas said. "We got yelled-at at halftime because we didn't play very well. We had to pick it up."

The Tigers picked it up in the second half to the tune of not allowing a single basket in the second half until there were less than 12 minutes left and had just one Windom Area player score in double digits - Victor Ogeka with 11 points.

There were plenty of chances for the Eagles to climb back in the game, but the Tigers were the team that took advantage of the opportunities.

"Every 50/50 ball went their way," Nielsen said. "Sometimes, you have nights like that. Our kids got pretty frustrated and it showed on the court. They have a little bit different speed than we do right now."

Bryce Bever and Sam Huska each finished the game with eight points each for the Eagles.

Marshall hosts New Ulm at 7:45 p.m. today before finishing the regular season at Mankato East at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
