Police Chief Johnson’s resignation accepted

February 15, 2014
By Steve Browne , Marshall Independent

Minneota Police Chief Eric Johnson will be moving on after 17 years.

City Administrator Shirley Teigland confirmed the Minneota City Council had accepted Johnson's resignation on Monday.

Johnson is Minneota's only full-time police officer.

Johnson has accepted a position as police chief in Cold Spring and had been waiting for the results of his physical examination on Feb. 7.

Johnson will leave Feb. 25. The city council has already started advertising for a new chief and in the meantime Marshall Police Officer Kathy Bresson will serve as interim chief.

Bresson is one of six police officers who works for Minneota on evenings and weekends, a total of about 20 hours. Bresson has worked part time for the city since 1999.

"After 17 years, you realize how many people have taught you," Johnson said. "Colleagues, city councils and friends."
