MARSHALL - A thousand students and dozens of judges can eat a lot during two busy days.
"Schwan's gave us a catalog and let us shop," said Roberta Wyatt, owner of The Daily Grind. "We had subs from Subway, ice cream from Schwan's and coffee from the Grind."
Lori Fruin, food service director at Marshall High School, oversaw the kitchen facilities.
"I met with Roberta, and we went over the list of food they wanted," Fruin said. "Sometimes, they have walking tacos. This year they decided to have Subway."
Karla Antony, hospitality judges co-chair, said her employer U.S. Bank encouraged employees to volunteer for the event.
"I've been working for U.S. Bank for over five years," Antony said. "They give two eight-hour paid days to employees to volunteer in the community. For under five years, they get one paid day, and for non-work time volunteer activities, they donate five dollars per hour to the charity you volunteer for."
