Jerome Christensen

He was born May 31, 1943, to Roy and Myrtle (Johnson) Christensen in Tracy.

He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Milroy. Jerome graduated from Milroy High School in 1961 where he was active in football and FFA. After graduation he entered the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Springfield, stationed in Nice, France. During his time in the Navy, he traveled extensively throughout Europe.

After he was honorably discharged from the Navy, Jerome began working for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad and then began farming with his dad and uncles. On Oct. 21, 1967, he was united in marriage to Loris (Pixie) Holmberg at Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood. They were blessed with four children and three granddaughters.

In addition to his life dedicated to farming, Jerome was also active in his community. He served on the boards of directors of the Farmers Cooperative of Milroy, Tri-County Coop, Westline Township, and Our Savior's cemetery board. He was very proud to serve as Sergeant of Arms of the Earl Christopherson American Legion Post #274 for two decades. His many years of service to the Honor Guard were honored by his recent promotion to Master Sergeant of Arms. Jerome loved spending time with his family and friends, and thoroughly enjoyed being grandpa to his three granddaughters. Jerome's other passions included hunting and fishing. He spent years walleye fishing in Canada, elk hunting in Montana, goose hunting in western Minnesota, deer hunting in northern Minnesota, and duck hunting on the farm marshlands. He shared his love of the outdoors with so many people, teaching firearm safety for 35 years. Jerome was a founding member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Southwest Great Divide Chapter, and was a past member of the Minnesota Whitetail Association, Ducks Unlimited, and Pheasants Forever. Jerome's other interests included bowling in a Men's league and a Mixed Doubles league, collecting Native American artifacts, studying U.S. and military history, and spending time with many family pets throughout the years.

Jerome is survived by his wife, Pixie, of Milroy; and his children, Christina (Mike) Marron, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Canute (Cheryl) Christensen, of Safford, Ariz.; Jennifer (Steve) Shirley of Valley City, N.D.; and Bjorn Christensen of rural Milroy; granddaughters Miranda and Breanna Marron; and Anna Shirley; and sister Diana (Jon) Beebout of Underwood.
