PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Marshall holds off Worthington/Fulda

WORTHINGTON - The Marshall boys hockey team broke a three-game skid with a 4-3 win over Worthington/Fulda on Tuesday in Worthington.

The Tigers never trailed in the game, but survived a tie score in the second and third periods for their second win over the Trojans this season in Southwest Conference play.

"We were trying to get back on the right track, get back in the win column and have a good game," said Marshall head coach Michael Weiss. "Worthington played a great game, but we battled hard and got the W in the end.

Marshall (5-8-0 overall, 4-2-0 Southwest) jumped out to the 2-0 lead with goals from Dylan Criquet-Danielson and Blaine Moran in the first period.

Taylor Rasmussen added a goal in the second period and Moran capped off the night with his second goal of the game, giving the Tigers the 4-3 lead and the win.

"The line of Derek, Taylor and Blaine was working well tonight," said Weiss. "They were moving their feet, moving the puck around. (Moran) was in the right spot at the right time and put them away."

Marshall took advantage of both clean shots and rebounds to score their four goals on the night.

"We had a couple nice shots and a couple rebound goals," Weiss said. "It shows the boys they can score different ways. It doesn't have to be a breakaway to get a goal. We can get in there tight when we need to."

The Tigers will be in action again on Monday when they travel to Windom to face the Eagles for the second time this season, having won 8-1 in the first meeting.

"It's always tough playing a team the second time in their home rink," said Weiss.
