GIRLS HOCKEY: Marshall scores 10 goals vs. Trojans

WORTHINGTON - Going into its game against Worthington/Fulda on Tuesday night, the Marshall Tigers team had one goal in mind.

Control the puck.

And the Tigers did just that, defeating the Trojans 10-0 in Worthington in a Southwest Conference match-up.

"I thought we handled it well," said Marshall head coach Kevin Schroeder. "We came in with a goal of having good puck control and taking control of the game. Going into the offensive zone and take care of the puck. I thought we did a good job of that."

Marshall (7-9-1, 4-2 conf.) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first three minutes with goals from Mikenna Radke, Miranda Fischer and Lizzie Archbold.

The Tigers got two more goals in the first from Teegan Wyffels and Jessica Blanchard to lead 5-0 after the first period.

"It was 3-0 right away and from there on we played three lines, everybody played," Schroeder said.

In the second period the Tiger attack stayed strong with Alysia Rupp, Blanchard's second and another from Sonia Reynolds.

Marshall was also able to keep the puck in the Worthington end of the ice, allowing only eight shots on goal the entire game.

"Sierra Wagner played the whole game in net and I think she only saw eight shots," said Schroeder. "We did a good job with the fore-check, keeping the puck in their end."

The Tigers ended the game with two more goals from Wyffels, giving her a hat trick and Marshall the 10-0 win.

"The big thing for us was when you're playing a team you should be able to control the puck against, that you do, and that's what we did."

The Tigers will end the week with a pair of games against New Ulm, which is currently ranked 20 in Class A, and a rescheduled game against Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek.

"We have New Ulm coming up Thursday night, then Friday night we have a game they moved to Marshall now. It's the make-up game with Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek. That's what we want this time of year. Some tougher games going into playoff time."
