PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: RTR drops pair of games; Canby to play for St. Clair title

Russell-Tyler-Ruthton and Camby competed in a few girls basketball games during the weekend.

Summit 43, RTR 27

Martin County West 45, RTR 38

MARSHALL - Russell-Tyler-Ruthton dropped a pair of games over the weekend, falling 45-38 to Martin County West Friday at the Borch's Sporting Goods Holiday Classic in Marshall and 43-27 Saturday against Summit (S.D.) at the Milbank (S.D.) Shootout.

Against the Mavericks, Dana Schaefer led the Knights with 10 points and eight rebounds, while Kaylie Nielsen chipped in eight points, six boards and three steals.

Shayna Possail and Destinee Strand paced RTR with seven points apiece in the loss to the Summit Eagles. Strand also contributed two assists and two steals.

The Knights continue action Thursday on the road against Lac qui Parle Valley.

Canby 61, St. Clair 56

ST. CLAIR - Canby will play for the championship against Hayfield on Monday after earning a 61-56 semifinal win over St. Clair Saturday at the St. Clair Holiday Tournament.

The Lancers erased a 34-32 halftime deficit to get the win. Ricki Kallhoff and Natalie Dinius led the scoring with 12 points apiece, while Sydney Sisk added nine and Brandi Merritt eight. Dinius also chipped in 10 rebounds. Morgan Merritt recorded 10 assists and two steals while Kaitlin Varcoe had six points and six boards.

Katelyn Weber poured in 27 points for the Cyclones.

Canby takes on Hayfield at 8:15 p.m. Monday in St. Clair.

MARSHALL - Class A No. 1 Minneota kept its record unblemished with a 63-50 victory against Estelline (S.D.) at the Borch's Sporting Goods Holiday Classic Friday at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall.

Taylor Reiss paced the Vikings with 21 points and five rebounds. Emily Stienessen contributed 16 points, while Molly Hennen, Shelby Corbin and Kelsey Maeyaert added six points apiece. Hennen also dished out five assists, while Corbin picked up four steals.

Minneota (7-0 overall) will host Southwest Minnesota Christian on Thursday.

Basketball Postponed

REDWOOD?FALLS - The Redwood Valley Holiday Tournament games were postponed due to the weather Saturday.

On the boys side, the third-place game between Lakeview and Martin County West was postponed, as was the championship matchup between Hayfield and Redwood Valley.

On the girls side, Lakeview was set to take on Sibley East for the third-place game before being called off, while Dawson-Boyd was postponed from matching up against Redwood Valley for the championship.
