MARSHALL - The Marshall Tigers put together two solid halves of basketball, defeating Montevideo 64-34 in the Fastbreak Club Holiday Tournament Friday in Marshall.

The Tigers have won seven straight games and improve to 7-2 with the victory.

"We had a more consistent effort than the night before," Marshall head coach Travis Carroll said. "We played a much better second half (Friday). Offensively, we played unselfishly, so that was good. Defensively, we had a good night, also."

Marshall took a 35-19 lead into the half and also outscored the Thunder Hawks 29-15 in the second half.

"Monte played us very well," Carroll said. "We had to make some adjustments because of how they were playing. Riley (Sharbono) hit a three-pointer at the (halftime) buzzer and that gave us good momentum going into the second half."

Carroll noted that there was definitely room for improvement at the free-throw line, where the Tigers shot 6-for-12, but that he was especially pleased with the points the team scored in transition.

"Offensively, we were looking to make the extra pass and we were able to get some defensive rebounds and turn them into transition points," he said. "That was important to turn those into points on the offensive end (Friday)."

C.D. Douglas and Sharbono led Marshall with 16 points, while Andrew Hmielewski had 10 and Connor Winkelman eight. Sharbano also chipped in a team-high five rebounds, while Douglas also led the team in steals (three).

The Tigers continue Holiday Tournament action at 3:15 p.m. today in a matchup against Tracy-Milroy-Balaton.

"We know that on the offensive and defensive end, TMB is pretty aggressive," Carroll said. "They have a lot of good players on their team. We need to defend their personnel. Hopefully we're ready to go (today)."
