MARSHALL - The Marshall Tigers drained a number of free throws down the stretch to earn a 75-71 win over Delano in the 2013 Borch's Holiday Classic Friday at Southwest Minnesota State University.

With the victory, the Marshall girls basketball team improves to 8-0 on the season.

"Sarah Buysse shot well from the free-throw line, especially in the second half," Marshall head coach Dan Westby said. "To her credit, she knocked them down at crunch time and that forced the lead back up for us."

Buysse shot 12-for-13 at the line and contributed a team-high 23 points for the Marshall Tigers. As a team, Marshall was 25-for-33 at the line for a combined 76 percent, while Delano was 7-for-14 (50 percent).

"We battled well and I thought we were patient offensively in the first half," Westby said. "I thought we waited and got ourselves some good looks. But then in the second half, we got the lead up to 15 and we stopped stacking the basket. To their credit, they knocked down a number of shots at that point."

Marshall led 38-28 at the half, but saw the lead cut down to three points with less than a minute remaining in the contest. The Delano Tigers poured in 10 baskets from behind the arc to keep within striking distance.

"It was certainly an up and down game," Westby said. "They have some players that present some matchup problems for just about anybody. I thought we really did some good things in the first half. In the second half, I thought both teams competed hard. I think it was a combination of Delano really stepping up and shooting well from the perimeter and us not doing the job we needed to do in terms of closing out on shooters."

Kenzie Beekman posted a double-double for Marshall with 12 points and 13 rebounds, while Marah Mulso and Callie Graff chipped in 13 points apiece. Hannah Bennett dished out a team-high seven assists and added seven points.

The Marshall Tigers continue action at 7: 45 p.m. today against Sioux Falls O'Gorman (S.D.) in the final matchup of the Borch's Holiday Classic in Marshall.
