Sibley East wins team title vs. Maple River at Redwood Valley

REDWOOD FALLS - Sibley East had four weight class champions en route to winning the fourth annual Redwood River Riot on Saturday at Redwood Valley High School.

Tanner Pasvogel (113), Jason Meyer (123), Austin Brockhoff (138) and Nathan Rose (220) claimed titles for the Wolverines.

United South Central came away with three champions, including Dylan Herman (145), Derek Herman (152) and Colten Carlson (182).

Other weight class champions were Rylee Moltier (106), of Sartell-Saint Stephen; Spencer Jenniges (120), of Wabasso/Red Rock Central; Anthony Luft (126), of Worthington; Aaron Trio (160), of Maple River; Zach Carlson (170), of Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg; Carson Hagen (195), of Worthington; and Alex Schroepfer (285), of Wabasso/Red Rock Central.

Seven area teams - Marshall/Lakeview, Canby, Dawson-Boyd/Lac Qui Parle Valley/Montevideo United, Fulda/Murray County Central, Quad County, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton/Westbrook-Walnut Grove, Wabasso/Red Rock Central - competed in the tournament.

United, which placed third in the team standings with 142 points, had the most placers (10) among area squads. Keith Abraham finished third at 160; Peyton Mortenson ended up fourth at 106; Joe Weeding (170), Anthony Quigley (182) and Jake Lehmann (285) all placed fifth; Jordan Bothun (126) and Spencer Sulflow (132) both were sixth; and Logan Knoshal (138), Mason Kwilinski (152) and Cole Bungarden (220) all claimed eighth.

Canby edged Wabasso/Red Rock Central 127-126 for sixth place. The Lancers had six placers, including Christian Full (runner-up at 182), Wyatt Johansen (fourth at 113), Quentin Beiningen (fifth at 126), Jack Citrowske (fifth at 145), Cole Regnier (fifth at 195) and Konnor King (seventh at 120).

With champions in Jenniges and Schroepfer, the Bobcats had seven wrestlers place in the tournament. Other Wabasso/Red Rock Central finishers were Jordan Schroepfer (third at 170), T.J. Fulton (sixth at 138), Mitchell Fulton (seventh at 126), Jared Welch (seventh at 195) and Nick Altermatt (eighth at 132).

Quad County scored 64 points to end up 16th overall. The Sting had four placers, including Colten Specht (third at 126), Kirby Winson (sixth at 145), Dylan Johnson (seventh at 152) and Hayden Johnson (seventh at 170).

Marshall/Lakeview produced 40 points to capture 23rd overall. The Tigers placed three wrestlers with Toby Semler (fifth at 113), Nick Erbes (fifth at 120) and Ramzi Gregoire (seventh at 145).

Ben Blanchette, the runner-up at 126, was the only wrestler who placed for Fulda/Murray County Central. Logan Axford, fourth at 132, was the only grappler who placed for Tracy-Milroy-Balaton/Westbrook-Walnut Grove.

Frazee Quadrangular

FRAZEE - Class A No. 10-ranked Minneota/Lincoln HI dropped two of three duals on Saturday during a quadrangular at Frazee High School.

The Vikings lost 33-21 to unranked Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial Area and fell in a 41-27 decision against Class A No. 2-ranked Frazee. Minneota/Lincoln Hi defeated unranked Brainerd/Pillager 51-22.

Against the Knights, the Vikings trailed 18-0 after five weight classes. Minneota/Lincoln HI won six of the final nine bouts to make a comeback bid, but fell short in the dual. Bryce Bruner (decision at 138), Alec Engler (decision at 145), Nicholas Esping (decision at 152), Alec Bueltel (decision at 170), Nathan Bueltel (pin at 195) and Trent Esping (decision at 220) all won matches for the Vikings.

Against the Hornets, Minneota Lincoln HI lost the final four bouts - two by pinfall, one by injury default and one by forfeit. The Vikings surrendered a 27-17 lead by allowing Frazee to score the final 24 points. Eric Hauswedell (decision at 106), Landyn Vanoverbeke (forfeit win at 126), Engler (decision at 145), Nicholas Esping (pin at 152), Grant Abraham (pin at 160) and Alec Bueltel (decision at 170) all claimed wins for Minneota/Lincoln HI.

Against the Warriors, the Vikings won nine weight classes, including six with pins. Brock Buysse (decision at 113), VanOverbeke (pin at 126), Kollin Drietz (pin at 132), Bruner (forfeit win at 138), Kael Jacobson (forfeit win at 145), Engler (pin at 152), Nicholas Esping (pin at 160), Abraham (pin at 170) and Nathan Bueltel (pin at 182) all contributed to the Minneota/Lincoln HI victory.
