MANKATO - Marshall won its fifth straight game with a dominant road performance against section rival Mankato West on Saturday.

The Tigers (5-2 overall) defeated its second consecutive section opponent with an 80-52 shellacking of the Scarlets (6-2).

"We took care of the ball very well and we shared it very well," said Marshall head coach Travis Carroll, who guided an MHS squad that committed 13 turnovers and had 16 assist on 31 field goals against Mankato West. "It was a good day because the guys did a great job of playing unselfishly."

C.D. Douglas led the Tigers in scoring (20 points), assists (seven) and blocked shots (two). Riley Sharbono added 19 points and an MHS-high eight rebounds. Connor Winkelman (15 points), who was the third player in scoring double figures, added four assists and three steals.

Marshall, which has section wins over Worthington and Mankato West, faces section foe Mankato East (3-5) at home in the Fastbreak Club Holiday Tournament at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

MHS took a 44-27 lead through 18 minutes and outscored the Scarlets 36-25 in the second half.

"Mankato West has been playing really well in our section. But it's also important to ready to face Mankato East," Carroll said. "Section wins are quality wins against quality competition."

The Tigers executed their offense efficiently by shooting 57 percent (31 of 54) from the field and limited the Scarlets to 31 percent (18 of 59) shooting. Marshall was better at the free-throw line, where the Tigers made 13 of 15 shots (87 percent). Mankato West struggled to make 15 of 32 free-throw attempts (47 percent).
