Wabasso pulls away during 2nd huge half

LAMBERTON - After matching the score at halftime, Wabasso was able to outscore Red Rock Central 36-21 in the second half to earn a 56-41 win in the semifinals of the Red Rock Central Holiday Tournament on Friday in Lamberton.

Chelsey Guetter sparked the win for the Rabbits with 30 points, six steals and five assists. Karlee Eichten dropped 11 points, while Morgan Frank chipped in six points, 12 rebounds and five assists.

Wabasso (7-0 overall) is ranked 10th in the latest Class A girls basketball poll.

Olivia Bittner led the Falcons with 13 points, while Brooke Rasmussen contributed 11 points and four steals. Rachel Kedl hauled down 10 boards.

Red Rock Central (3-1) will face Adrian today during the third-place game at 6 p.m., while Wabasso will take on Tracy-Milroy-Balaton for the championship at 7:30 p.m.

LAMBERTON - Tracy-Milroy-Balaton opened the Red Rock Central Holiday Tournament with a 62-26 win over Adrian in a semifinal game Friday.

Cassie Hook paced the Panthers with 20 points and five steals. Anna Peterson chipped in nine points, while Kassidy Przymus contributed eight points and six rebounds. Gabbie Gervais also recorded eight points, while Sammie Gervais dished out five assists and had six points.

Elizabeth Thier led the Dragons with 15 points.

TMB and Wabasso meet at 7:30 p.m. today for the championship Red Rock Central Holiday Tournament after Adrian plays Red Rock Central for third place at 6 p.m.

SLAYTON - Fulda overcame a five-point (39-34) halftime deficit to record a 72-70 win over Murray County Central in Red Rock Conference action Friday.

Sariah Cheadle drained 33 points and Melissa Gehl posted a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Raiders to victory.

Rebekah Nysetvold tallied 19 points for the Rebels, while Morgan Behrends had 16 points, 14 rebounds and five steals. Jade Giese added 14 points and six assists.

WESTBROOK - Elizabeth Woelber and Dayna Comnick each recorded a double-double to lead Westbrook-Walnut Grove to a 59-49 win in Red Rock Conference action Friday.

Woelber had 24 points, 10 rebounds and four assists for the Chargers, while Comnick had 10 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and three blocked shots. Mady Johnson added 12 points and four blocked shots.

Alexa Huisman led the Panthers with 24 points.

MINNEOTA - Class A No. 1-rated Minneota improved its season to 6-0 overall and 5-0 in the Camden Conference South Division after handling Lakeview 69-35 on Friday.

Emily Stienessen and Taylor Reiss each chipped in 18 points and a blocked shot in the contest for the Vikings, while Molly Hennen added seven points and four assists. Kelsey Maeyaert, LeAnn Jerzak and Shelby Corbin contributed five points apiece.

Brianna Hoffman and Brooklyn Hartle grabbed three rebounds and dropped in eight points apiece to lead the Lakers. Sadie Stelter and Madi Nelson each collected five points in the loss.

Both teams continue action Dec. 27 as Minneota takes on Estelline at Southwest Minnesota State University and Lakeview plays Dawson-Boyd at Redwood Falls.

CANBY - After leading by five points at the half, Canby outscored Lincoln HI 35-21 in the second half to pick up a 60-41 win in Camden Conference South Division action Friday.

Ricki Kallhoff paced the Lancers with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Brandi Merritt added 15 points and Natalie Dinius 11. Morgan Merritt chipped in seven points, eight assists and four steals.

Morgan Citterman collected 17 points to lead the Rebels. Alex DeSmet scored nine points, while Heidi Pavek had eight points, four steals and three assists. Maranda Jerzak added a team-high nine rebounds.

Canby returns to action Dec. 27 against Maple River at the St. Clair tournament. Lincoln HI plays against Fulda in the Borch's Sporting Goods Holiday Classic on Dec. 28 at Southwest Minnesota State University.

Lac Qui Parle Valley 56, Dawson-Boyd 46

MADISON - Lac Qui Parle Valley used a huge advantage at the free-throw line to secure a 56-46 Camden Conference North Division victory against Dawson-Boyd on Friday.

The Eagles made 23 of 35 free-throw attempts, while the Blackjacks connected on 5 of 7 chances.

Katarina Kuhlmann topped Dawson-Boyd (4-1 overall, 4-1 Camden North) with 18 points and added four assists. Justine Lee chipped in 10 points, a team-leading eight rebounds, six assists and a blocked shot. Andrea Lee had nine points and three steals, while Kelly Husby contributed seven rebounds, six points and three steals before fouling out.

Kaitlyn Connor led Lac Qui Parle Valley (5-0, 5-0) with a double-double of 23 points and 11 rebounds. Alaysia Freetly also had a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds.

The Blackjacks are idle until 3 p.m. Friday, when they play a non-conference game against Lakeview in the semifinals of the Redwood Valley Holiday Tournament at Redwood Falls.
