YOUTH HOCKEY: Bantam A places 3rd

BRAINERD - The Marshall Bantam A team placed third at the Brainerd Hockey Tournament from Dec. 6-8.

The Tigers began the tournament with a 2-1 quarterfinal win over Brainerd. Jackson Luther scored Marshall's first goal with assists from Jonathan Bell and Clay Stevens. Jack Boerboom scored the Tigers' final goal with assists from Mason Plante and Mason Penske.

In the semifinals, Marshall dropped a 4-0 decision to Hopkins. Goaltender Trey Nelson made 60 saves during the game.

Marshall defeated Stillwater 4-3 in the third-place game. Penske scored the Tigers' first two goals, while Boerboom and Dawson Duetz had the final two tallies, respectively. Duetz broke a 3-3 tie with his goal, which came with 30 seconds remaining.

Boerboom and Plante assisted Penske's first goal, while Jonathan Bell set up Penske's second tally. Brendan Archbold assisted on Boerboom's goal, while a Penske pass allowed Deutz to score the game-winner.

Nelson had 49 saves in the game.
