MARSHALL - The Marshall Tigers shut out the Redwood Valley Cardinals 5-0 during a Southwest Conference game Thursday at Lockwood Motors Ice Arena.

MHS goaltender Jon Loefke needed to make only four saves, while the Tigers ransacked Redwood Valley's Tyler Domeier with 61 shots - of which he had 56 saves.

"We wanted to focus on defense (Thursday night) and we did a good job of keeping the puck out of our zone," MHS head coach Michael Weiss said. "When it did end up in our zone, we were keeping it to the outside and not in the middle. We were not letting Redwood Valley get any good shots on-goal."

Weiss noted the play of Domeier, who faced an onslaught of Tigers' shots.

"When we got into to the Cardinals' zone, we put a lot of pucks on-net and (Domeier) had to make some great saves to keep the game scoreless through the first period," Weiss said.

MHS outshot Redwood Valley 28-3 during the first 17 minutes and 41-3 after two periods.

Dylan Criquet-Danielson handed Marshall a 1-0 lead in the second period on assists from Blaine Moran and Taylor Rasmussen with 9:41 left. It became a 2-0 edge for the Tigers after Andrew Bell scored a power play goal from Alex Buysse as 1:07 remained in the period.

MHS scored three third-period goals to preserve the victory.

Moran had an unassisted power-play goal with 13:24 left before Buysse found the back of the net on a pass from Bell as 10:03 remained. Rasmussen added an unassisted goal with 7:59 left.

Marshall was 2 of 5 on its power play, while Redwood Valley did not score on its only chance with am extra attacker.

The Tigers (3-3-0 overall, 3-1 Southwest) travel to Willmar for a non-conference game at 3 p.m.
