TRACY - The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton girls basketball team didn't let a slow start in the first half determine its destiny. Making up a 13-point half time deficit, the Panthers came back to upset the Canby Lancers in a 79-74 overtime victory.

With 9 seconds left in regulation, TMB's Cassandra Hook sunk two free throws to top off what appeared to be a 65-62 win for the Panthers.

But the Lancers weren't going to give up without a fight. As time expired, Sydney Sisk hit a 3-point shot to keep the Lancers alive and push the game into overtime.

Hook hit a quick field goal for the Panthers, followed by a shot from beyond the arc from Kassidy Przymus. Sisk responded with a 3-pointer of her own.

The score was knotted at 72-72 as the final minute approached. Scrambling from both teams led to a string of fouls, putting the Panthers on the free-throw line five times, an area they struggled at throughout the game.

TMB made 6 of 7 shots from the free-throw line to push the team to a 79-74 advantage and the win.

"We made a few free throws which we missed a lot of in the first half," said TMB head coach Derek Ashbaugh. "We capitalized on opportunities.

"We have been a slow starting team in the first two games that we've had," said Ashbaugh. "We have played much better in the second half and that held true to form tonight."

The Lancers jumped out to an early 8-0 advantage with Brandi Merritt and Natalie Dinius each scoring 3-pointers to set the tone for the Lancers' offensive attack.

The Panthers had 4 scoreless minutes before finally getting on the board with two free throws from Sara Stoneberg.

Both team struggled to maintain control of the ball facing back-to-back steals, with both teams racking-up 24 turnovers.

The Lancers managed to increase their lead with TMB unable to connect from the free-throw line. A pair of 3-point shots by Sisk gave the Lancers a comfortable 37-24 lead entering the second half.

Sisk had five 3-pointers in the effort, totaling 20 points.

"We knew what we were doing out there, we just weren't executing," said Ashbaugh.

The Panthers entered the second half with a sense of urgency.

"We talked a lot about playing with energy," said Ashbaugh.

Kassidy Przymus knocked down back to back field goals sparking TMB's momentum. Hook then ran away with her seventh steal of the game, assisting Kaylee Kirk with an easy lay-up, minimizing the Lancer's lead 50-45.

Morgan Merritt answered with a breakaway lay-up to give Canby a 53-47 lead. The Lancers found themselves in foul trouble, giving the Panthers the opportunity to take advantage 60-56. As time expired both teams would interchange the lead.
