MARSHALL - With the help of six pins, the Marshall/Lakeview wrestling team earned its first dual victory of the season in it's home-opener against Tracy-Milroy-Balaton/Westbrook-Walnut Grove 42-33 on Tuesday.

"It was very exciting to get that first win at home," Tigers head coach Justin Bouwman said. "The kids wrestled very well."

After a struggling to fill weight classes, Marshall/Lakeview adjusted its lineup to boost the Tigers' limited roster.

Marshall 182-pound wrestler Jarrett Louwagie puts Tracy-Milroy-Balaton’s Cole Olson in position for a pin during a non-conference dual meet Tuesday at Marshall High School.

The adjustment worked well in the lower weight classes.

Dylan Dulas sparked the MHS momentum, picking up a 9-5 decision over Anthony Axford at 106 pounds. At 113, Toby Semler used a quick takedown to pickup a pin in 1 minute, 45 seconds over Daulton Carlson. Hussein Osman followed suit for Marshall/Lakeview, pinning Nash Mayer at 120 in 90 seconds.

After falling behind in the first period 2-0, the Tigers' Nick Erbes came back with an overtime takedown to defeat Caleb Christian 6-4 at 126. Deyvn Marzloff gave Marshall/Lakeview its fifth consecutive win with a pin in 3:47 over Tyler Illg, pushing the Tigers to a 24-0 lead.

"We moved a lot of kids around down at the bottom," Bouwman said. "Those kids won some big matches for us."

The Panthers broke their scoring slump by earning their first win of the night at 138 as Logan Axford used 4:53 to pin Brent Breczinski.

"Brent wrestled a good match for us," Bouwman said. "Logan is a really good wrestler and Brent was hanging with him. Those two have wrestled each other a lot and they know each other's moves very ell."

The Tigers answered with Matt Facile pinning Cooper Olson in 1:24.

At 152, TMB/WWG's Sterling Schwartz took a commanding 11-0 advantage over Wyatt Martin early in the third period.

"Wyatt is a young kid and nothing really phases him," Bouwman said. "He just lets it all go and sees what happens."

Martin shocked Schwartz by making a comeback with a reversal, resulting in a pin and a win for Martin.

"Its exciting for him to get those big wins," Bouwman said.

Jarrett Louwagie also earned a pin for the Tigers, defeating Cole Olson at 182 in 3:34.

After struggling to pull out a win, the Panthers tallied two pins at 170 and 195 to trim their deficit to 42-24. TMB/WWG'sTristan Varpness made quick work of Sam Prokot at 170 with a 55-second pin and the Panthers' Ozzy Chan Chable pinned Brandon Appel at 195.

Kenny Her also posted a win for the Panthers, defeating Hunter Greve in a 6-4 decision.

The Tigers forfeited at 160 and 285 but still managed to hold onto a solid lead.

"It was really a team effort tonight. It came out perfect," Bouwman said.

The Tigers are back in action Tuesday, when Marshall/Lakeview compete in a triangular at Minneota with BOLD.
