LeSUEUR - The Marshall girls hockey team couldn't quite push past St. Peter/LeSueur-Henderson/Tri-City United and had to settle for a 3-3 tie in overtime Friday in LeSueur.

The Tigers struck first in the matchup, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal from Megan Vogl at the 15 minute, 12 second mark in the first period. Vogl was assisted by Miranda Fischer and Teegan Wyffels.

The Bulldogs evened the score with 5:52 remaining in the period when Bailey Wilmes put one in the back of the net. The team surged ahead 2-1 at the 14:12 mark in the second period on a goal from Anna Amos.

"I thought it was a physical game," Marshall head coach Kevin Schroeder said. "We were pretty evenly matched, but it was definitely a physical game for us."

The Tigers were able to keep pace with St. Peter/L-S/TCU, knotting the score at 2-all with 6:27 left in the second period when Wyffels connected on an assist from Lizzie Archbold during a power play. Four minutes later, Archbold contributed a goal on an assist from Vogl to give Marshall a 3-2 advantage heading into the third period.

But the Bulldogs would tie the score once again, on a goal from Amos with 2:47 remaining in the third period.

"We had a number of penalties called on us and we had some opportunities near the end of the third period and we just couldn't capitalize on them," Schroeder said.

During the five-minute overtime, neither team could find the back of the net to break the tie. Sierra Wagner collected 33 saves for the Tigers.

"It took us awhile to adjust to their type of play, but for the second, third and overtime periods, I thought we played a lot more physical and played stride for stride with them," Schroeder said. "We normally don't Marshall (0-3-1) will continue to look for its first win as the team prepares to host Worthington/Fulda on Tuesday.
