Conference for Young Writers Jan. 8

The 22nd annual Conference for Young Writers is Jan. 8, 2014, at Southwest Minnesota State University. The conference is for students in grades 3-8 and will begin at 8 a.m. with registration and end at 2 p.m.

This conference celebrates writing and features a keynote presentation and three hands-on sessions that introduce students to authors, illustrators and other types of communicators. Debra Frazier, author and illustrator, is the keynote speaker. Through interaction with the presenters, students will discover their creative abilities and learn how to express their thoughts. Twenty-one presenters will give classes on various kinds of writing such as journaling, fantasy or science fiction. In addition, students may create their own super hero, write a fractured fairy tale, learn the secret formula of storytelling, be a reporter for a day, stretch their creativity, learn about graphic novels, create fictional worlds and more.

Students must be registered and accompanied by an adult to attend the conference. The early bird registration deadline is Nov. 19, with the final registration deadline on Nov. 26. Register early for a better chance that your child gets the classes they're most interested in. The conference brochure and registration form are available on SW/WC Service Cooperative's website: www.swsc.org/studentactivities. If you have questions, contact Andrea Anderson at andrea.anderson@swsc.org or 507-537-2257.
