PREP VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Falcons, Chargers advance

LAMBERTON - The Red Rock Central volleyball team defeated Edgerton in three games to advance from the first round of the Class A Section 3 South DivisionTournament on Monday.

The Falcons (15-10) defeated the Flying Dutchmen 28-26, 25-12 and 25-14.

Cassandra Erickson recorded 13 kills and nine digs for RRC while Brook Rasmussen was 15-for-15 with four aces serving. She also had six digs. Mikaela Smith came away with 29 set assists to go with eight digs in the win.

WESTBROOK - Dayna Comnick nearly had a double-double as seventh-seeded Westbrook-Walnut Grove swept tenth-seeded Hills-Beaver Creek 25-11, 25-11, 25-14 in a Class A Section 3 South Division Tournament first round match Monday.

Comnick posted 16 kills, nine assists and went 12 of 12 at the serving line with two aces.

Madison Takle was the Chargers' serving star with seven aces on a 20 of 20 effort. She added five kills. Elizabeth Woelber led WWG with 12 digs and Abby Herding set up 32 assists.

Westbrook-Walnut Grove, which improved to 16-12 overall, plays second-seeded Southwestern United (24-4) in the semifinal round Friday at Windom Area High School.

CANBY - Class A Section 3 North Tournament No. 9-seeded Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg got the best of No. 8 seed Canby in the first round of volleyball playoff action Monday.

The Fighting Saints swept the Lancers 25-18, 25-18, 25-21.

Tara Kockelman led Canby from the serving line, going 11-for-11 with two aces in addition to adding 11 digs. Rachel Jessen contributed a team-high 23 digs, while Alayna Pederson had 10 kills and four ace blocks. Brook Bauman went 12-for-14 serving with two aces and had eight kills. Abbi Denekamp and Abbey Pederson each chipped in 14 set assists.

RENVILLE - The Yellow Medicine East volleyball team ended its season in the first round of the Section 3A volleyball tournament with a loss to Renville County West.

Chyanne Sand led the Sting with seven kills and four blocks. Kalli Knudson had 10 set assists and three ace serves while Madison Hagert was 11-for-11 with an ace serve and collected 11 digs.

YME finished its season with a 6-20 record.

COTTONWOOD - Class A Section 3 North Division Tournament No. 7-seeded Lakeview earned a 26-24, 25-21, 25-22 sweep against No. 10-seeded Lac Qui Parle Valley in first round action Monday night.

Briana Hoffman led the Lakers' offense with 14 kills and added two ace blocks, while Madi Nelson chipped in nine kills and one ace block. Briatta Buntjer led the defense with 13 digs, while Bailey Buntjer had 10.

Bailey Buntjer also went 10-for-10 with four ace serves, while Nelson was 14-for-15 with an ace. Sadie Stelter went 11-for-12 with two aces and also contributed six kills and 17 set assists. Makana Barker added 20 set assists.

CLARA CITY - The Lincoln HI volleyball team was swept by MACCRAY on Monday night in the first round of the Section 3A North Tournament.

The Wolverines defeated the Rebels 25-8, 25-12, 25-12 to advance to face the third seed Russell-Tyler-Ruthton on Friday.

Morgan Citterman was 9-for-9 serving, had seven digs and six set assists. Maranda Jerzak had two kills and three blocks in the loss.

Lincoln HI ends the season with a 4-23 record.
