PREP FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Wabasso drops 1st game of 2013

SLEEPY EYE - Class A No. 2-ranked Sleepy Eye St. Mary's scored the first 24 points en route to a 36-15 Southern Minnesota Conference win over Class A No. 5-ranked Wabasso on Friday.

The Knights scored on runs of 5, 10 and 5 yards to take a 24-0 lead with 3 minutes left in the first half.

The Rabbits' only answer before intermission was a 63-yard TD pass from Neil Eichten to Mitch Fulton just 15 seconds after St. Mary's had scored.

The Knights maintained their lead in the second half on Brandon Helget's 17-yard touchdown pass to John Brandl at the 10:03 mark of the third quarter.

Wabasso (6-1 overall, 6-1 SMC) scored with 15 seconds left in third, when Caleb Kemp ran 2 yards to the end zone.

St. Mary's (7-0 overall, 7-0 SMC) sealed the win with a 35-yard TD pass from Brandl to Koden Kasek in the fourth quarter.

LAMBERTON - The Red Rock Central football team scored its second win of the season Friday, defeating Cedar Mountain/Comfrey, 28-16, in Southern Minnesota Conference play.

Jordan Schroepfer shouldered the load for the Falcons (2-5, 2-5), scoring all four touchdowns while rattling off a 208-yard rushing performance.

RRC will travel to Sherburn on Wednesday to face Martin County West to end the regular season.
