Claire Boersma led the Tigers with a third-place finish, completing the course in 15 minutes, 36 seconds, while Jackie Turner took seventh-place (15:47.50).

"We had a solid showing today," Marshall girls head coach Marie Sample said. "I shifted our six and seven runners, that we've been running with all year, down and pulled up another two girls from JV just to shake things up a little bit and they ran really well. It was windy and a little warm, but nice."

While the effort was there, Sample thought some of the girls may have still been fatigued from Saturday's race in Alexandria.

"Our girls are really young, so I think their legs were kind of reeling yet, coming off of running so hard in the mud and rain at Alex," she said. "Claire came back and ran an amazing race today, and actually, so did Jackie Turner and Morgan Radel. But while a couple of the girls did well, they didn't run personal record times."

Nichole Sample took 12th-place (16:01.90), while Radel finished 13th (16:07.50) and Sydney Mauch 15th (16:12.20) for the Tigers.

"We had five runners in the top 15, which was awesome," Marie Sample said. "Our girls are really gearing up. They have that goal of making state in mind and they'd like to win the conference next week and see how many all-conference we can get as individuals. The top seven (finishers) are all-conference. They're excited."

Luverne's Madison Schandelmeier won the girls competition, finishing in 15:07.80. Leah Jessen led the Lancers with a 10th-place finish (16:01.30), while Emily Gillingham and Natalie Dinius added 14th- and 16th-place finishes.

Boys

Andrew Bell claimed the individual medal with a time of 17:01, he has now won two of the last three meets. Marshall had two more runners in the top-five with Blaine Moran taking third with his run of 17:24 and Michael Larson 12 seconds behind him in fifth.

Also scoring for the Tigers were Wade DeAustin (17:56) in 11th and Chase VanKeulen (18:28) in 22nd. "It was nice having the guys up front," said head coach Brian Leibfried. "We closed the gap from our one to five runner."

Several Southwest Conference teams competed in the invitational, giving Marshall a preview of the league meet.

C/M/L took third place overall with a fourth-place finish from Wyatt Johansen with a time of 17:34. Other area athletes in the top-ten included Yellow Medicine East's Jacob Carrol placing eighth (17:47) and Tracy-Milroy-Balaton's Matt Lavoy in ninth (17:49).
