NEW ULM - The Marshall Tigers won their first dual of 2013 behind solid doubles play Saturday at the New Ulm Invitational.
Marshall defeated Albert Lea 4-3 with wins from all three of its doubles teams and a victory from No. 1 singles player Jenna Gannott.
At No. 1 doubles, Brittany Soupir and Rachel Landmark topped Carson McGivern and Anna Boettcher in straight sets 6-0, 6-1.
At No. 2 doubles, Cheyenne DeMuth and Rafa Holouka upended Katie Boettcher and Alexa Drescher 7-5, 6-3.
At No. 3 doubles, Linnea Bader and Sara Schroeder defeated Sara Kabrud and Audry Laite 6-4, 6-0.
Gannott posted a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Lynzee Underdahl at No. 1 singles.
Albert Lea won the other three singles matches. Kaitlyn Larson got past Tori St. Aubin 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 at No. 2, Mercedes Salton swept Crista Schultze 6-4, 7-5 at No. 3 and Elizabeth Ogunkandi stopped Meghan Naughton 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4.

The combination of two doubles victories and Gannott winning a singles match gave the Tigers three match win during a close loss to New Ulm.
At No. 1 doubles, Soupir and Landmark posted a 6-3, 6-4 win against Emma Vranich and Graclyn Sarkar.
At No. 2 doubles, DeMuth and Holouka swept a 6-2, 6-4 decision against Jane Arnold and Sara Guymon.
New Ulm took the No. 3 doubles contest as Meleah Reinhart and Sicily Trullinger defeated Bader and Schroeder 6-4, 6-1.
Gannott overcame May Sarkar 6-3, 7-6 (7) to take the No. 1 singles match.
New Ulm won the rest of the singles bouts. Taylor Bolovan topped St. Aubin 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 at No. 2, Matea Sievert turned back Schultze 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 and Rose Dobie upended Naughton 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
