Wabasso defeats Litchfield for first place at Montevideo Invitational

JACKSON - The Class A, No. 3-ranked Minneota Vikings came away with the championship of the Jackson County Central Tournament on Saturday.

Minneota defeated Rochester May 22-25, 25-19, 15-6, Martin County West 25-8, 25-22, Cannon Falls 25-9, 25-14 and Class AA, No.7-ranked Jackson County Central 25-22, 24-26, 15-8.

The Vikings' Shelby Corbin was 46 of 49 with four aces from the serving line. She added 25 kills and 38 digs.

Minneota's Taylor Reiss recorded 60 kills with 21 of them coming in the title match against Jackson County Central.

Molly Hennen recorded 24 kills and 43 digs. She has 18 digs in the championship contest.

Rabbits top field

at Montevideo

MONTEVIDEO - Wabasso won the championship of the Montevideo Tournament by defeating Litchfield in the title match Saturday.

The Rabbits improved to 5-1-2 overall after knocking off the Dragons 25-21, 22-25, 21-19 for first place.

In pool play, Wabasso tied Lakeview and Paynesville a one set apiece, but earned tournament wins based on scoring more total points. The Rabbits swept Glencoe-Silver Lake in another pool play match.

Mindy Gobrish had 13 kills and served six aces for Wabasso, which received 53 assists and four aces from Larissa Rohlik. Morgan Frank added seven solo and two assisted blocks and 20 kills. Chelsey Guetter led the Rabbits with 58 kills.

Pool Play: Wabasso tied Lakeview 25-17, 16-25 (won by total points); def. Glencoe-Silver Lake, 25-23, 25-23; tied Paynesville, 25-9, 26-28 (won by total points).

Championship match: Wabasso def. Litchfield 25-21, 22-25, 21-19.

Lakers finish 2-0-2 at Montevideo

MONTEVIDEO - Lakeview improved to 6-6-2 overall this season after going 2-0-2 during the Montevideo Tournament on Saturday.

In pool play, the Lakers tie Wabasso and Glecoe-Silver Lake at one set apiece, but split those tournament matches based on total points scored. Lakeview defeated Paynesville in another pool play match. In the final round, the Lakers defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in two sets.

Makana Barker sparked Lakeview with 65 assists, 30 digs and three aces during the tournament. Brianna Hoffman added 40 kills and 10 blocks, while Briatta Buntjer served four aces and made 48 digs.

Pool Play: Lakeview tied Wabasso 17-25, 25-16 (lost by total points); def. Paynesville, 25-17, 25-15; tied Glencoe-Silver Lake, 23-25, 25-22 (won by total points).

Final round: Lakeview def. Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 25-17, 25-23.

Grizzlies stand 3-3 after Sunshine Invite

MILLER, S.D. - Hendricks placed third during the Sunshine Bible Academy Invitational on Saturday.

The Grizzlies (3-3 overall) compiled a 1-2 record during the tournament. Hendricks defeated Marty 25-21, 25-9; lost to Lower Brule 25-19, 25-15; and were defeated by Sunshine Bible Academy 25-10, 25-9.

Hendricks' Hailey Teske earned recognition on the all-tournament team. Janessa Scotting (33) and Brianna Bolish (31) were the Grizzlies' dig leaders. Courtni Frank went 22 of 27 with three aces from the serving line for HHS.

The Grizzlies won their second match of 2013 last Tuesday after sweeping E.C.H.O. Charter 25-20, 25-7, 25-19.

Greta Johnson (14 of 14) and Sierra Satterlee (12 of 14) were the serving stars for Hendricks. Teske had four kills and two blocks, while Johnson posted six assists. Scotting dug up 13 balls and Anna Digre added two blocks.
