PREP SWIMMING: Tigers take thunder from Hawks

Dunn, Blanchette, Vermeire each win two individual events

MARSHALL - The Marshall girls swimming and diving team demolished Montevideo during its home dual Thursday night.

The Tigers won 11 of 12 events in its 118-67 win over the Thunder Hawks.

"It was a fun day and its was nice to walk away with a win at home," Marshall head coach Nicole Peterson.

Ashley Dunn, Abby Blanchette and Kylie Vermeire each earned two individual victories on the day. Dunn swam to victory in the 100 freestyle (58.18 seconds) and a 2:06.95 effort in the 200 freestyle. Blanchette topped competitors in the 200 individual medley (2:27.26) as well as the 100 breaststroke (1:15.62). Vermeire took the 100 backstroke (1:07.04) and 50 freestyle (26.59) titles.

"We had some really good performances and a lot of girls cut time again," Peterson said. "We are hitting a time in the season where times are starting to plateau but the girls were cutting time today."

Kelsey Piescke (100 butterfly), Blythe Bell (500 freestyle) and Kami Love (1-meter diving) also took home victories for the Tigers. Sameh Hedlin earned her first section cut with her second place finish in the 100 butterfly placing second (1:16.33).

The 400 freestyle relay consisting of Dunn, Roseland, Blanchette and Vermeire blew away the competition, finishing 16 seconds ahead of the second-place team. The 200 freestyle relay swam to victory with Dunn, Bernardy, Bell and Vermeire

Marshall is be back in the pool Saturday when it travels to the Prior Lake Invitational.
