Prep Volleyball Roundup: Falcons upend Tigers for second victory

Red Rock Central improved to 2-0 after earning a non-conference win at Springfield 25-16, 25-19, 22-25, 25-20 on Thursday.

Cassandra Erickson inspired the Falcons with 13 kills, 22 digs, two blocks and a 16-for-17 serving effort that yielded one ace.

Brooke Rasmussen chipped in 24 digs and a 22-for-25 performance at the serving line that produced two aces.

Olivia Bittner also had 13 kills to lead the Falcons, who received 37 assists and 17 digs from Mikaela Smith. Melanie Kedl added nine kills and two blocks, while Rachel Kedl also made two blocks.

Red Rock Central hosts Windom Area on Tuesday.

Murray County Central bounced back after dropping its season opener on Tuesday with a sweep of Russel-Tyler-Ruthton in Slayton on Thursday.

Kristi Bose picked up 21 digs and knocked down 13 kills in the match, while finishing 13-for-13 serving for the Rebels. Hannah Schmidt led MCC with 24 digs, while Jade Giese (19) and Paris Thomas (12) combined for 31 set assists. Dana Vander Wal chipped in four ace serves in the victory.

Destinee Strand had 20 set assists for RTR in defeat, while junior Nicole Enemark led the Knights with seven kills. Janel Wichern had a team-high 16 digs to go along with four blocks and six kills. Dana Schaefer and Justine Possail each had four blocks as well, while Possail was a team-best 14-for-15 serving. Libero Anna Madsen picked up 10 digs as well.

The Knights (1-1 overall) begin Camden Conference play in their next match, as RTR travels to Cottonwood on Tuesday to take on Lakeview.

MCC (1-1) returns to action Thursday for its Red Rock Conference opener, hosting Westbrook-Walnut Grove.

Yellow Medicine East leveled its record at 1-1 after posting a road sweep at Minnewaska on Thursday.

The Sting served 18 aces with four apiece from Marissa Sneller (9-for-10) and Megan Odegard (8-for-12). Madison Hagert (9-for-10) and Makayla Dyrdahl (8-for-9) both had three aces. Alexis Peters (11-for-13) and Kalli Knudson (8-for-10) served two aces each. Hailey Enstad also went 5-for-5 at the serving line.

Odegard was the dig leader with 11 and Hagert contributed 10. Chyanne Sand topped YME with six kills, while Jordan Hinz added five.

The Yellow Medicine East volleyball team began its season Tuesday with a 7-25, 18-25, 25-23, 7-25 loss at Central Minnesota Christian in Prinsburg.

Jordan Hinz collected nine kills and one block to spark the Sting's attack. Chyanne Sand added eight kills and four blocks and Allie Zieske chipped in four kills and two blocks.

Yellow Medicine East's top servers included Alexis Peters (12-for-12) and Madison Hagert (6-for-6), while Megan Odegard had two aces and Marissa Sneller had one.

Odegard was the Sting's dig leader with five. Peters contributed four more.
