Polska Kielbasa Days to feature laser tag

August 9, 2013
By Steve Browne , Marshall Independent

The theme of Polska Kielbasa Days this year is "Ivanhoe Salutes Hollywood" and will feature a new attraction, laser tag.

"We're hoping to do something for teenagers up to age 30 who aren't into ball games," said Loretta Lundberg, president of the Ivanhoe Community Club.

For young women, the Distinguished Young Women Program will be at the Lincoln HI gym tonight. Entering seniors can compete at the local level for a chance to go on to state in four categories: academics, a personal interview, physical fitness and talent.

Winners at the state level can go on to the nationals in Mobile, Ala. to compete for scholarships and the opportunity to represent the program as the Distinguished Young Woman of America.

Also in the talent line, the sidewalk chalk art contest for kids starts at the library at 12: 30 p.m.today and goes up the sidewalk as far as they need the space.

An event that proved popular when introduced last year will be back as well. On Saturday afternoon, the Anything of Interest Show returns to Main Street.

"It can be classic cars or collections of some kind," Lundberg said. "That was real popular last year."

For the sports-minded, there will be softball, volleyball and bean bag tournaments, water fights and an antique tractor pull.

And of course there will be food: a pork chop feed today, ethnic Polish food, a Whopper feed and chili cookoff on Saturday, and on Sunday tacos in a bag and a pie and ice cream social. There will also be food vendors available.
