GRANITE FALLS - The Yellow Medicine County Board heard reports and updates from department heads at its regular meeting on Tuesday.
The board voted to approve a five-year capital improvement plan presented by County Engineer Andy Sanders.
The plan provides for grading sections of two county roads a year through 2016 and backsloping on four county roads in 2017. Two county roads will be paved in 2015 and 2017. The county will do a mill and overlay on one road in 2013, three roads in 2014 and one road in 2017.
Three county bridges in Swede Prairie, Lisbon and Hammer townships are due to be replaced in 2013, two bridges in Stony Run and Sandnes townships in 2014, one in Burton Township in 2015 and one in Sandnes Township in 2016.
At the request of Family Services Director Rae Ann Keeler-Aus, the board voted to advertise for the position of child support officer to replace the current officer who is retiring in March.
The board authorized the hiring of a children's mental health social worker at a rate of $42,000 per year and a child protection social worker at a pay rate of $39,000 per year.
The board also voted to approve the hiring of a part-time summer park maintenance worker for $11.83 per hour.
Yellow Medicine County Sheriff Bill Flaten reported to the board he expected to have an agreement to provide law enforcement services with the city of Clarkfield for its approval at the next meeting.
The sheriff's department will hire one extra deputy to be stationed in Clarkfield and buy a car.
