Marshall VFW Blue crossed the border for a pair of wins on Tuesday night, defeating Watertown (S.D.) 14-10 and 8-7 in two seven-inning games.
Blue jumped out to an early lead, plating 12 runs in the first three innings, before holding off a late Watertown rally to take Game 1.
Connor Winkelman threw three innings of relief and got the win for Blue, which used five pitchers in the game.
Quinton Johnson led the charge at the plate for Blue, finishing 3-for-4. Nate Hoeft, Noah Winkelman, Jack Bock and Dylan Criquet-Danielson each had a pair of hits for Marshall. Blue tagged 13 singles in the game.
Blue again stormed out to a lead in the nightcap, scoring three runs in both the second and third innings to take a 6-0 lead. Watertown crept back into the game, but two runs in the top of the sixth for Blue proved critical, as Watertown scored five in the bottom of the inning to pull within a run. Both teams went scoreless in the seventh.
Nate Hoeft started and picked up the win for Blue, which improves to 11-7 on the summer. Criquet-Danielson recorded a five-out save in relief.
Brad Bahlmann drilled a two-run double as part of a 2-for-4 game for Marshall.
Blue is back in action on Thursday, when they travel to Tracy for a single game.
