MARSHALL - A tornado was spotted on the ground 8 miles northwest of Tracy near Amiret about 5:20 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service out of Sioux Falls, S.D.
The tornado, which didn't cause any damage, was part of a widespread storm system that moved through southwest Minnesota on Friday evening, covering every county in the region.
A power outage was reported about 6 p.m. on the outskirts of Amiret.
The National Weather Service had called for trained spotters in Balaton, Tracy, northwest of Russell and other areas.
The NWS said one cell in particular carried the possibility of tornadic activity.
Emergency sirens were sounded at 5:30 p.m. in Marshall. Marshall received marble-sized hail and 50-plus mph winds with just less than 1 inch of rain. A trained weather spotter also reported hail almost 2 inches in diameter in Minneota.
The tornado warning for Lyon County expired at 5:30 p.m.
Milroy received 1.5-inch hail.
