The Marshall Legion baseball team was unable to overcome five errors against New London-Spicer as the defensive miscues led to a 13-4 defeat Wednesday night in Spicer.
New London-Spicer struck for eight runs in a disastrous third inning for the Mudcats, where walks and errors brought three different pitchers to the mound for Marshall. In total the Mudcats used five pitchers in the game, allowing 13 runs on nine hits.
Offensively, Marshall plated a run in each of the first two innings before scoring twice in the fourth inning. Derek Buysse's sacrifice fly in the first got the Mudcats on the board to start. Leo Zerr had the only multiple-hit game for Marshall, finishing the game 2-for-4.
The Mudcats (3-5 overall) had just five hits in the game, but will look to regroup in their next game. Marshall opens up play today at the St. Cloud Legion tournament with a 7 p.m. game against Willmar on Putz Field.
