Pistulka fans 15 as Long Sox earn 2-0 victory over Stark

Johnny Pistulka recorded 15 strikeouts and had a six-hit, complete-game shutout for the Lamberton Long Sox in a 2-0 win over the Stark Longhorns Sunday in Stark.

Stark pitcher Adam Sellner also had a strong game, giving up just six hits and two runs in nine innings.

Lamberton's Landon Erickson had the lone extra-base hit in a the game, connecting for a double.

The Long Sox (7-4 overall, 6-1 Tomahawk East League) are back on the field Tuesday for a home game against Redwood Falls.

Yankees' offense surges in pair of weekend wins

The Milroy Yankees' offense exploded for 27 hits over the weekend on its way to a pair of wins.

The Yankees tallied 13 hits against the Raymond Rockets in a 6-4 win Saturday. Andy Schmidt and Matt Bauer were both 2-for-4 with an RBI, Dave Schmidt was 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs and Riley Carpenter and Micah Gronli each added a pair of hits. Milroy had no extra-base hits in the win.

Milroy's bats stayed hot Sunday when the Yankees traveled to Willmar. Milroy had 14 hits in a 16-9 win over the Rails.

Bauer had a grand slam in the fourth inning to help the Yankees take control. Aaron Mathiowetz went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Brian Dolan and Riley Carpenter each had two hits.

The Yankees (8-2 overall, 7-1 Corn Belt League) host a league game against Marshall on Friday.

Irish split Sunday doubleheader

The Milroy Irish split a pair of home games Sunday, defeating Adrian 16-3 before dropping a 4-0 game against the Pipestone A's.

Clay Ellis was 3-for-3 for the Irish in the opener. Milroy busted the game open in the fourth inning with 13 runs. Tyler Peterson went 2-for-2 with a double, four RBIs and three runs scored. Anthony Dolan was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Isaac Dolan held Adrian to just one hit, striking out two batters and allowing one walk.

Pipestone's Sam Schneider and Brandon Alfson combined to hold the Irish scoreless in the next game. Peterson took the loss for Milroy, working all seven innings and giving up four runs on eight hits.

The Irish are now 7-7 overall after the split.

Buttermakers strike for 3 wins

The Hadley Buttermakers won a blowout Saturday and a pair of one-run games Sunday en route to a 3-0 weekend.

Hadley struck for 20 hits in a 13-1 win over the Tracy Express Saturday. Nick Bruning, Eric Wieneke, Nate Wieneke and Max Zwart all went 3-for-4 for Hadley in the win.

Brent Wiering was 2-for-3 for Tracy.

On Sunday in Hadley, the Buttermakers scored a run on an error by the right fielder in the bottom of the eighth to capture a 3-2 win over Fox Lake.

Joe Larson led the Buttermakers at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Max Zwart was 2-for-4.

The Buttermakers needed more late-game heroics in their next game against Worthington, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 7-6 win. James Wajer was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to tie the game and Trent Carlson followed with a game-winning RBI single.

Nick Bruning went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Buttermakers, and Nate Wieneke went 2-for-4.

The Buttermakers are now 8-6 overall and 5-1 in the Gopher League. They take on the Mudhens Monday in Minneota.
